Dining in Foster City

Our favorite restaurant in Foster City is Turtle Bay Seafood & Grill right in the heart of Foster City. You can’t miss the location, in the shopping center across from the Leo Ryan Park and Lake where Safeway and Longs sit. We’ve been going there since it first opened up and have always had a great meal. This past weekend we went to dinner there and it was, as usual, great. Sam, the owner, welcomed us with his great big smile and we sat down to listen to some wonderful live jazz. They have live jazz on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

Turtle Bay serves wonderful seafood. They’re known for their Raw Bar Sampler – a huge platter of fresh Oysters, Prawns, Ceviche with Steamed Mussels and Clams. It’s a feast on its own. In fact, their selection of Appetizers can work well as a light dinner should your appetite be on the small side.   The menu changes seasonally offering what's fresh from the farmer's market or ocean that time of year.  Try their soups, always a delight.

One of the specialties of the house is the “Lazy Crab”. If you love crab, this dish is to die for. You get a whole crab shell filled with Dungeness Crab lump meat, in a wonderful garlic and butter sauce. It is unique to them and well worth the drive there. Their seafood is always fresh, fresh, fresh and you can’t go wrong with any item on the menu. The chef is always willing to accommodate diets, so don’t be afraid of asking.

On the Grill side, the Ribeye Steak is wonderful, tender and oh, so, flavorful. If you like lamb, go for the New Zealand Rack. The Special of the Evening was a Filet of Oscar, with lump crab and hollandaise sauce. It was done beautifully and had great flavor. Forget calories!

One of the best secrets of Turtle Bay is their wine list. The prices are reasonable and the selection good. Plus, the restaurant has a full bar. They offer great desserts. A friendly atmosphere, and a casual feel. (No white table clothes here.)  Because of its location it gets a lot of travelers staying at the local hotels, business people and families. It’s a great place to go for a special evening or business lunch.

You will leave Turtle Bay and want to return again and again and again.  The service is first rate.  Everyone likes working there, and you know it!  So, when you go, do say hello to Sam for us!turtle_bay_map.jpg

I think this is an excellent story and I plan to model it with a great restaurant in my own town.

Thanks for your insight on a wonderful restaurant.

Beth
